H old your peace

The hardest part for many of us in an effort to control our anger is the act of holding our peace. We had to get it off our chest, as the phrase goes. Life and death are in the power of the tongue, so either we will use our tongue to ensue life or we will use it to bring about the death of another person. It is possible for words to do more irreparable damage than physical abuse. It is very possible to destroy the spirit and hope within a person simply by the words generated by your anger. This is one very important reason why it is a wise man that holds his peace until the appropriate time. When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, God didn’t immediate barge into the garden and strike the sinners down. The scripture records that God came in the cool of the day. (Genesis 3:18) I have likewise told my children that I will deal with you in the cool of the day and not now because it will not be profitable for either of us if we confront the offense now. If you take charge through your anger then you will exalt the offense. (Proverbs 14:29) When you add wrong to an offense then you indirectly give the person an opportunity for self-justification and pride. Right or wrong, you can actually help the offending person feel good about wronging you or not feel bad about it simply because you blew up.  Yet, a person that is slow to anger and able to hold their peace until the appropriate time is not a weakling, but rather he is better than the mighty. (Proverbs 16:32) This is true because he rest in the power of the Lord.
