Steps to effectively memorize scripture.
- Eliminate distractions as much as possible
- Read the text multiple times.
- Understand the meaning of the text: Discuss the verse in prayer w/God
- Seek the Holy Spirit’s assistance and follow His instructions
- Break the text into sections or short phrases
- Create a Mental Index or Mental Filing System: Use combinations of indexes.
- Write it out several times
- Say it out loud many times (Deaf, use ASL to communicate it aloud)
- Recall with a friend
- Repeat Step 1-10
Note: Repeat it until you are tired. Recall it until it hurts. Repeat it until it is easy. Recall it until it becomes natural. Repeat it until it becomes a part of you. Then in life situations, recall it aloud.
Repeat - say again and/or do again
Recall – to remember; to call to mind; to recollect; to bear in mind
You can't recall what you have not put to memory, and you won't retain what you can't recall.
